Motor Bike Tour : Mt. Akagi in Gunma Prefecture ( 赤城山 )

Finally once again outing on long way to Gunma. I was planning from last 1 month going there but couldn't make it because of my laziness. On this Saturday I was planning but again same old story. But on Sunday woke up early at 6 and decided to finally move myself from these walls. I left home around 8:30 , riding my Bike YZF-R1 towards Onuma lake. Took the Expressway and reached Akagi Shrine around 12:00.

The shrine is the focus of more than 300 branches spread all over the prefectures not only in Gunma but in Miyagi, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo, Kanagawa and Niigata. This shrine is believed to have been built during the reign of the Emperor Sujin from 97 B.C. to 29 B.C. The agriculture gods of Onamuchi-no-mikoto and Toyoki-irihiko-no-mikoto are worshipped here. It is a sanctuary surrounded by ancient trees, including three 1,000-year-old cedars. The shrine is used for many purposes. People come and invoke the spirits when they get pregnant, when naming their newborn baby, during the Seven-Five-Three Festival (for 3-year-old boys and girls, 5-year-old boys and 7-year-old girls), to perform an exorcism, and so on. If you are lucky, you will be able to see such events at the shrine.

Parking is Free here.

After taking an hour long rest here into wilderness , next point was Konuma lake up in the mountains. I took road next to the shrine , it was small road with around 80 or more curves. Hard to ride big bike , and for sure big car. Road was not good too , rough because of heavy rains I guess. It took more than 40 mins to reach top , though traffic was almost none.

Konuma lake , had a free parking too. Lot of people came by car and started hiking from this place. Unfortunately road going Onuma lake was closed so couldn't go further to my original destination.

It is located about 2 kilometers away from Onuma Lake. The beautiful natural setting  here too is pleasant. Colorful azaleas attract your eyes especially in the spring.
Onuma is a crater lake about 800,000 square meters in size. Tourists can enjoy walking around the lake along the well-organized walkway. It takes about 1 hour for the circuit.  In the summer, people can enjoy rowing a boat, camping, and other outdoor activities. In winter, ice-fishing for smelt is a very popular activity.

Ride back from top around 14:00 , back to same curvy road , it was pain in ass riding bike there.
Finally back on my highway with speed ranging 130 K , taking stopover and had first meal (Soba ) of the day.

Reached home 16:30.
